Halloween originated from the times of Celtic Farming festival, Samhain. The holiday marked the start of Winter after the harvest season.
There was a belief amongst farmers that there was a day when spirits rises from the graves after the crops died. Going by this belief, Celtic people disguised themselves to fool and ward off the spirits, with the hope to protect their land until the next season.
